1. Car Wash
With a group of friends or your family, set up a car wash in the parking lot of your school, or any other public place. (Make sure you ask for permission and make sure that people are aware of moving cars.) |
2. Toonie Fundraiser
Have multiple Toonie Boxes in your school, office or other place you visit frequently with a sign asking people to donate a toonie (or two) to Shukrana. |
3. Photo Contest
Choose a subject (pets, landscapes, portraits, etc.) and get people to submit their photos for a certain fee (something small like $1) and the best three photos get a prize! Donate the extra money to Shukrana. |
4. Carnival
You can make this as big or small as you want. Set up games/activities and ask your friends/family to help run things with you. Charge an entry fee OR ask people to buy tickets to do a certain amount of different games/activities. |
5. Bingo
Pick up whatever supplies you need (cards, bingo chips, etc.) and organize a bingo night. Have a concession stand and sell goodies before, during and after the game(s). Charge people to buy cards and offer a small prize for the winner. |
6. (Easter) Egg Hunt
Organize an egg hunt for your neighbourhood/street and ask people to contribute a donation in exchange for participation. Afterwards (if you like) invite your friends and their kids to join you for an afternoon making Easter crafts. |
7. Lemonade Stand
Set up a Lemonade Stand on a busy corner or outside a shopping centre. To spice things up, try offering freezies, hot chocolate, cookies, cakes, and other homemade goods and beverages. (You can change what you sell depending on the season.) |
8. Garage Sale
Set up a garage sale and advertise it a few weeks in advance. 9. Etsy Sale Set up an online store through Etsy (www.etsy.com) and sell goods to benefit Shukrana. |
10. (Fun Idea!) Swear Jar
Keep a jar on your desk/somewhere at home and ask your colleagues/family to drop in some change every time they say a "bad" word (whether that means a swear word, an overused word or something they're not allowed/supposed to say). At the end of the month, donate all the money to the Shukrana Charity. |
11. Pie Eating Contest
Get a few contestants to compete for the Who Can Eat the Most Pies Prize (there doesn't have to be a time limit). Have an audience bet on who they think is going to win. (The betting money can be donated to the Shukrana Charity.) The person who can eat the most pies gets a prize. |
12. Popcorn Stand
Rent a popcorn maker and sell bags at your school/office or at a public event. Donate the proceeds to Shukrana. |
13. Talent Show
Ask people to audition for a place in your talent show. Make sure that the acts are suitable for the general audience. Sell tickets anywhere possible (schools, offices, public events, etc.) Have a small bake sale during the intermission (if you have an intermission). |
14. Karaoke Evening
Rent a karaoke machine and host a karaoke evening at home, or talk to a local restaurant about having the karaoke evening at their restaurant. Charge an entry fee and make sure to have a [small] prize for the winner. If you wish, you can hire two or three judges (depending on if you are a judge) for a small fee. |
15. Eco Fashion Show
Find some creative people to create designs for an eco fashion show. Use only recycled materials (and/or some garbage, if you wish). Charge an entry fee and donate the proceeds to the Shukrana Charity. |
16. Local Band Performance for Charity
Offer local bands a chance to play their music in front of an audience. Rent an auditorium in advance. Get bands to pay you to perform. Sell tickets and advertise the performances. Tell your friends and family about it and try and get them to tell everyone they know. Try to put emphasis on the fact that all proceeds go to charity. If you wish, set up a voting station for people to vote on which band(s) they think are the best. The best band can receive a price. Also, have a refreshment stand/bake sale and donate the proceeds to Shukrana. |
17. eBay, Kijiji or Craigslist Sale
Clean out your house and sell whatever you don't need on eBay, Kijiji or Craigslist. Donate the proceeds to Shukrana. 18. Dance-a-thon Set up a dance a thon at a local school. Hire a DJ and take requests for songs. Get students, teachers and other invited guests to compete for who can last the longest on the dance floor. (Have a prize for the winner!) The ticket to get in is a donation towards the Shukrana Charity. If you wish, have a small bake sale at the same time. |
19. Happy Birthday
Ask your friends and family to make a donation to the Shukrana Charity instead of buying you a material gift. This is a great idea because you are not only helping Shukrana, but you are also saving the environment! (Material gifts are not always best for the earth.) |
20. Friday the 13th
Improve your karma by throwing a party for the Shukrana Charity. Ask people to donate to Shukrana instead of bringing a gift. |
21. Penny War / Competition The goal of a Penny War is to collect as many PENNIES as possible in your jar AND put as many NON-PENNIES in everyone else’s jar. Here’s how it works: First you need to establish teams. They could be grade levels in a school, homerooms, clubs, etc. Each team needs its own labeled container or jar. Money is worth points based on its monetary value.
Penny = 1 point, Nickel = 5 points, Dime = 10 points, Quarter = 25 points, Loonie = 100 points, Toonie = 200 points, $5 bill = 500 points, $10 bill = 1,000 points, etc. Pennies give your team positive points—while nickels, dimes, quarters, and any dollar bills take points AWAY from the team’s total. Therefore, you want to put PENNIES in YOUR TEAM’S jar (positive points), while you want to put nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar bills (negative points) in the jars of OTHER TEAMS. The goal is for your team to have the most POSITIVE points by the date for the end of the fundraiser. |
22. Dress Down Day Students can pay a certain amount of money (e.g. $5) to wear casual clothes instead of a uniform at their school.
23. Help Out Your Community
See if anyone in your community needs their leaves raked (in Autumn) or their snow shoveled (in Winter). If they do, explain to them that you are wanting to raise money for Shurkana and ask them to pay you so you can donate [a portion of] your money to Shukrana. 24. Clean and Re-Organize Garages Charge for your services and donate a portion of your earnings to Shukrana.
25. Change for Change Ask your friends and family if they have any loose change they would like to get rid of. Collect some and give it to Shukrana! You can tell them you're collecting "change for change."
