Our Story

  It started with a Vision
Picture
Our charity was created by Darshan Arora, whose lifelong dream was to create a charity to help underprivileged kids go to school. In 2013, when he was 80 years old, he began making his dream a reality by setting up the charity with the Canada Revenue Agency. By April 2014 the Canada Revenue Agency had approved the application and our charity was officially born!

  The Beginning
On a car trip earlier that year, Darshan mentioned his charity idea to his granddaughter, Scout. She was very interested and agreed to volunteer to design a website for him. Darshan and volunteers worked hard to establish a successful charity and to improve it as much as possible along the way (through feedback). The Shukrana Foundation was built with hard work, perseverance, dedication, feedback and passion.

  A double impact
At the Shukrana Foundation, our mission is to provide and support education for kids in India and Peru. However, we also work with kids in Canada - we recruit youth of all ages to fundraise, donate, volunteer and help out. While doing this, kids learn about the world, learn valuable life lessons, and how to be kind and generous. The money we receive helps kids in India and Peru, and our programs help kids in Canada.

  Where we are today
We are proud of how far we've come since 2013.
  • Kids have fundraised $4,000+ in 6 years.
  • We have given over $300,000+ to help kids in India and Peru go to school, as well as international disaster relief (e.g., the Nepal Earthquake).
  • We have helped 1000+ children
