Mid August 2015
Simran S. had been wanting to fundraise for Shukrana for a couple years, and she got exactly what she wanted - along with her younger brother Armaan, Scout and Jasmine, her cousins. On August 18th, the four of them baked a bunch of cookies and made Lemonade and Berry Punch. Then, on August 19th, Simran, Jasmine and Scout made Pink Lemonade and Fruit Punch. Their total money raised from those two sales is over $100! Everyone is proud of both of them but especially little Armaan who is our youngest fundraiser. |
Mid May 2015
One morning in March, Sammy and Sinead decided they wanted to do a fundraising event for Shukrana. With the help of Scout Collins, the girls organized a humungous bake sale that was chosen as the First Official Fundraising Event for Shukrana! The girls worked and worked to organize, plan, and even got Scout's sister, Jasmine, involved too. They baked and sold treats in Rennie Park and on Bloor Street, and ended up raising close to $185, exceeding their goals of $50/$60. These girls are truly something special - their kindness, perseverance, teamwork, thoughtfulness and generosity is really appreciated here at Shukrana. To learn more about this event, please visit our First Fundraising Event page. Plus, on her own, Sammy has helped with a lemonade stand & leftover bake sale, which you can learn more about here. |
Early June 2014
On a warm June afternoon, Jasmine, age 9, and Anjalie, age 7, decided they wanted to go door to door to collect money for the Shukrana Charity (they wanted to raise money for girls in India to go to school). They walked all around their street and many generous people (including themselves) donated. After counting the money, they discovered they had raised over $65! (But, at least $25 was their own money they chose to donate.) Not only did these girls collect money for a good cause, but they also learned valuable life skills and qualities (generosity, kindness, etc.). This shows that no matter how old or young you are, you can make a difference! This story is especially wonderful because not only were Anjalie and Jasmine so generous, giving and determined, but also their fantastic neighbours were amazing too by contributing to Shukrana.

Early September 2014
It continues to inspire me that children can be so generous, kind and selfless.
"Hi, I wanted to donate money to your Shu-kran charity," a very adorable seven year old's voice said. In the midst of a cool, September evening, Sebastian, age 7, knocked on Scout's door, wanting to donate to Shukrana. Scout had told Sebastian about Shukrana and that if he ever wanted to help, he was welcome to. Scout wanted to go over to his house and tell his mom about it, and it ended up that his younger sister, Amelia, age 5, had brought down her piggy bank and also wanted to donate some of her own money too! Both of the kids were really excited to help kids in India go to school. Both the kids donated a total of $29.25 (all in coins!) - $11.00 from Sebastian (who had the idea first) and $18.25 from Amelia (who was very giving!) These siblings were so generous that out-of-the-blue, they both decided they wanted to donate to charity out of their OWN money they saved themselves! It warms my heart even more to tell you that they also REALLY wanted to go and set up a lemonade stand to raise even MORE money on the same day (but it was much too cold out so it was decided they could do it on another day.) |
